UK Medical Careers Research Group - another entry

| | | | |

I wrote a little while ago about the UK Medical Careers Research Group survey of 1999 medical school graduates, and how I had answered (most of) the questions. I also mentioned that I'd been taking part in it for the past however many years - well, we've been surveyed a number of times. Now - revelation! - I was tidying up just the other day and came across the form from 2004-05. So I guess I didn't send it in. Is it now too late? Anyway, some of it I'd filled in, other bits are obvious, so I've included it below...

Yes - probably.
If you did not answer 'Yes-definitely,' what are you considering?
Practising medicine abroad
What is your main reason for planning to do so?
Development/Aid work would, by definition almost, require working overseas
Which country or continent?
Anywhere
Do you feel committed to a long-term career in the NHS?
Yes - definitely
If you did not answer 'Yes - definitely,' what changes to the NHS would increase your commitment or encourage you to return (if you have left)?
Please name any specialty for which you considered applying for postgraduate training but have now decided against:
Paediatrics
Why did you decide against it?
[no reason given]
Have you applied for a National Training Number (NTN)?
No
If no, why not?
I have not yet applied for an NTN but I intend to do so

I did not complete any of the rest of the form, mainly because I did not receive it until about this time of year (March) as I'd been travelling back to the UK and by that time all my plans were in disarray: I was going to stay in Australia and work with the New South Wales Emergency Transfer team, but a number of things about Australia hacked me off (some was detailed on pRevolution.org but much was left unsaid) and so I'd felt it was better to leave and aim for MSF instead... but thereafter I got lost and sucked into other things, such as looking after an elderly relative in the States. As they say, the rest is history...
